SWYAA Sri Lanka bid farewell to Mr. Janak Bandaranayake

 On 1st March 2019, the Cafe on the Fifth at Colombo echoed with the blessings of Swy Sri Lankan family who gathered to bid farewell to one of the outstanding personalities, Mr Janak Bandaranayake, senior Culture and Information Specialist of Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. The day was a fiesta devoted to the years spent together with Mr. Bandaranayake who was always a pillar of Nipponmaru journey of Sri Lankans. Mr. Bandaranayake retired from his service in January 2019 after serving the embassy for 33 long years. He was the coordinator for Swy programs from the very beginning. His involvement in Swy varies from selecting the National leader and PYs, receiving the representatives of Cabinet Office of Japan, arranging and guiding Port of Call activities with National Youth Services Council and advising each and every participant to be a good representative of Sri Lanka and to make the program a success. One the other hand, this event was a grand reunion for Swyers of SWY 14...

Nippon Maru Departs Yokohama



Nippon Maru, carrying over 240 youth from 11 different countries of the world set its journey to Singapore, India and Sri Lanka from the port of Yokohama, Japan on 29th January 2018 at 1600 hours (Japan Time)

The Young leaders on board Nippon Maru for SWY30 are from Japan, Australia, India, United Mexican States, Republic of Mozambique, Sultanate of Oman, Republic of Peru, Republic of Poland, Republic of South Africa, Kingdom of Spain and Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

As usual, the Departure Ceremony at Dolphin Hall was held magnificently. At the Ceremony, Mr. Hiromitsu Shimada, Director General in charge of Ship for “The World Youth Program” mentioned that SWY is once-in-a life time opportunity and further he stated “when time takes, Nippon Maru will be your home, your family, your playground and your whole world.”

Further, this ceremony was graced by Mr. Kouge, the president of International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan. As a well experienced Ex-participant of SWY 03 programme, he assuredly mentioned that the experience of SWY will be the spices for participants’ future life-styles.

Moreover, speeches by the representatives of PYs, NL and SNL of Japan were fruitful and   as a mark of respect, the Administrator, the advisor, the captain of Nippon Maru and all the NLs were presented with flower bouquets.

Over 500, including Ex-PYs, family members of JPYs and well-wishers were gathered at the Deck to bid farewell for the departure of SWY30.
